Home Kong Kitchen doesn’t just bake, collect and deliver bread to the homeless, the elderly, migrants and refugees. We also regularly donate dry foods (rice, pasta…), canned food, fresh fruit, clothing, bedding and just about anything else you no longer need that we can get our hands on!!!
During our collections and delivery runs over the past year, we have learned a lot about what Hong Kong does brilliantly to support the most vulnerable and where there is still room for improvement. We then mobilize our community of volunteers to help charities fill the gaps! This week we learned from ImpactHK founder Jeff Rotmeyer that while Hong Kong’s public showers are excellent and readily available for use by the homeless, basic amenities like soap, shampoo, towels and dental products are not provided and in short supply.
We are inviting our incredible HKK community to contribute basic amenities we can pop into home made wash bags designed and sewn by our youngest and craftiest volunteers and deliver to our homeless friends via ImpactHK on our Thursday afternoon bread runs! We are always happy to collect from your homes, a convenient location close to your workplace, your favorite coffee shop or watering hole!!! We don’t collect on weekends or Thursdays, which is our D Day (Delivery Day), but we do collect every other weekday.
Here are a few ideas of what to include:
- Soap
- Shower Gel
- Towel
- Shampoo
- Toothbrush
- Toothpaste
- Deodorant
You may also like to include any of the following:
- Fresh change of clothes
- Shaving kit
- Other types of skin/ hair products (comb, hairband…)
- Sunblock
- Baseball Cap
- Small portable fan (with batteries)
