So….. this was our Lunar New Year! How was yours?
Home Kong Kitchen‘s INCREDIBLE, DYNAMIC and PHENOMENALLY GENEROUS community of home bakers and donators utterly excelled themselves donating a record-breaking quantity of dried foods (sacks of rice, pasta, noodles…..), dried fruits, cookies, cooking oils, spices, cutlery, pots and pans, clothing, bedding, blankets, mobile phones and even a games console (!) to refugees @Refugee Union and the homeless @ImpactHK!
After collecting ALL THIS from various collection points all over Hong Kong and filling ELEVEN GIANT BAGS and 9 BOXES on Friday, we delivered to ImpactHK in the late afternoon, before getting busy in the kitchen for refugees through Friday evening and Saturday morning. We delivered to Refugee Union on Sunday afternoon, where we also served Cream Teas For Refugees at a special event organized for us by our friends and collaborators at Breadline! As well as serving the traditional English tea of scones with jam and clotted cream, we put on a sumptuous spread of party food, including a giant banana cake baked by HKK’s fantabulous Raquel Ate! Thanks to everyone in our wonderful community for inspiring us with your generous contributions and making a lot of good people facing unbelievable hardship very happy!!!!
Plus we discovered why this year is called the Year of The Ox: it’s because you have to be as strong as an ox to carry it! 😅

We look forward to meeting up with Refugee Union in the coming weeks and planning more special events! (Pasties For Refugees?) In the meantime, please consider donating to Refugee Union if you possibly can. They are relocating from Sai Yin Pun to Lai Chi Kok after their landlords hiked their rent and could really use your support to continue their inspiring work creating a lifeline and opportunities for refugees in our city!
Thank you for your inspirational kindness and support! 💜
